34 Years of Surprising Success
Private financial support of LCC Theatre is imperative for the success of its programs. It comes as a surprise to many people to learn that the theatre receives very little financial support from the state. The college pays our electric and cooling bills and the salaries of three staff members, but the theatre must find the money to pay for the performers, other staff members and the replacement and upkeep of equipment and supplies. Ticket income doesn’t even cover half of what it costs to pay performers’ fees, their hotel and travel arrangements, much less operational costs. This is intentional because--
We are committed to keeping ticket prices affordable
We keep our prices low because most people in the community couldn’t otherwise afford the experience of watching talented national and international groups like Ladysmith Black Mambazo, Arturo Sandoval, Laurie Anderson and Kodo doing what they do best. We also take many of these same artists into local schools to provide lecture-demonstrations and master classes to students at absolutely no cost. We are pleased to offer these affordable opportunities to students and patrons, but it means we have to work hard to make up the difference. As a result the theatre is a--
Beehive of activity about 48 weeks a year
We rent the theatre on available nights and weekends and appeal to foundations and generous members of the community to help us cover the other half of the costs of offering these exciting performances and rewarding experiences. Between the rentals and LCC shows, over 90,000 audience members enter our doors every year. This brings the total number of students, families and adults served to--
2.4 million people since 1974
As you might imagine, every bit of support we receive from our donors is greatly appreciated. Their contributions benefit the entire O‘ahu ohana. We are not only able offer affordable tickets but also keep our rental rates the lowest on the island, too. Many of the groups who use our facilities don’t have a lot of money themselves, but deserve to have a place that their children, students and friends can show off their talents.
We hope you will consider making a donation to LCC Theatre to support our efforts.
