Short History of the Theatre
Built in 1974, LCC Theatre is an intimate proscenium theatre with comfortable continental seating of 574. Located in Pearl City, Hawaii, LCC Theatre serves as the only major performing arts center for the Leeward and Central Oahu areas. Since the Theatre opened its doors in 1974 over 2.1 million people have experienced the passion of dance, the enchantment of music, the laughter of comedy, and the enlightenment of cultures from around the world. As a part of the University of Hawaii, the primary goal of LCC Theatre is to promote cultural curiosity. We want our performances to make a connection to the mind, heart or spirit of our audiences; creating and stimulating a hunger for the experiences only achieved through the arts.
Between 18 and 22 major productions are mounted in a typical season at LCC Theatre, which include 3-5 professional touring groups, 8-10 LCC productions and numerous co-sponsored events, for a total average attendance of over 90,000 patrons. The Theatre maintains a strong commitment to local artists. Partnerships have been created with groups such as Tau Dance Theater, the Hawaii State Dance Council, the Hawaii Ballet Theatre and the Honolulu Theatre for Youth.
"The Relation of Man and Nature in Old Hawaii"
Upon entering the lobby, the artistry and vision of late artist Jean Charlot extends the entire width of the entry space. The fresco mural, The Relation of Man and Nature in Old Hawaii was commmissioned of Charlot by the State Foundation on Culture and the Arts to design and execute artwork for the lobby when the Theatre was being built. The work started in May, 1974 and completed in October in time for the opening of the Theatre. The SFCA is currently working on a restoration project to repair the 30 year old mural.

Choosing People to Perform at LCC Theatre
Artist selection is a continuous and evolving process. Theatre Manager Joe Patti works with other presenters throughout the state as part of the Performing Arts Presenters of Hawaii. We look for companies who will be performing from Asia or Australia to help keep expenses reasonable. Feedback is solicited from the performing arts faculty both at LCC and at other educational institutions. A small advisory group helps with the selection process and, of course, input from patrons is always considered. If you have an artist or company you would like to see perform at LCC Theatre, send an email to the Theatre Manager!
